The South Georgia Center for Cancer Care (SGCCC) will host its 1st Ta-Ta Trot Breast Cancer Awareness 5K fun Walk/Run fundraiser at Statesboro High School on October 1, 2011. This event is intended to raise awareness for breast cancer, and to help raise funds to be used as financial assistance for local cancer patients and their families.
Held in conjunction with the East Georgia Regional Medical Center and the Statesboro Bulloch County Breast Cancer Foundation, the Ta-Ta Trot will start at the high school at 8 a.m., rain or shine, with registration opening at 7 a.m. The registration cost is $17 per person in advance and $20 per person the day of the event. Participants will receive, while supplies last, a t-shirt and goodie bag. After the event, South Georgia Center for Cancer Care will be providing free breast cancer screenings at the SGCCC center located across the street from Statesboro High School, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
"We believe this event will be a lot of fun, and it is for a very worthy cause. It's all to help cancer patients and to raise awareness in our community," said David H. Weems, M.D., Board Certified Radiation Oncologist at SGCCC. "Our hope is that this event is a huge success, and that as a result we are able to continue hosting the Ta-Ta Trot as an annual occurrence, honoring our patients, and making a difference in the lives of our neighbors who are dealing with cancer."
Registration is available online at www.sgcancer.com or by mailing in registration forms available at local businesses. Registration can also be completed in person at the Ta-Ta Trot event, or at the cancer center's location at 27 Lester Road in Statesboro, Monday through Friday.
